Three Mills GreenLea River Park update

Lea Valley Park? Nope it is not! – it’s definitely the Lea RIVER Park.

You might have noticed a lot of changes going on around the Olympic site lately - The Lea River Park is set to be the final link in a chain of green space along the extensive waterways of the Lea Valley.

Extending from just south of the Olympic Park, following the River Lea through Three Mills Green, Bromley by Bow, the Aberfeldy Estate in Poplar, Canning Town and reaching the Thames at East India Dock Basin.

What’s it all about?

The London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) vision for the Lea River park:
"to transform the Lower Lea Valley to become a vibrant, high quality and sustainable mixed use city district, that is fully integrated into the urban fabric of London and is set within an unrivalled landscape that contains new high quality parkland and water features”. The Lea River Park will be at the core of this new parkland shaping and encouraging high quality regeneration and providing an essential amenity for existing and new communities."

Come again?

Transform – yes please, the area needs lots of that!
Vibrant – sounds good, but like what? Mardi gras on a Sunday or Art festival.....
High quality regeneration – what’s not to like!
Sustainable - hmmm a much used word, in reality a tough one to deliver
Mixed use – that sounds like a broad term –  keeping my eye on this one
Fully integrated – hence all the forward planning?
New parkland and water features – oh the green the green of England, and the possibility of water taxi’s a la Venice!
Unrivalled landscape – fantastic, we live in a unique urban landscape – lets celebrate tranforming the east end water mecca.

Whats first? - Three Mills Green

First up is Three Mills Green - meetings with Churchmen Landscape Architects this Wednesday 09 June for a walk around Three Mills Island. With final plans about to be signed off by end of June and works planned to start in October – this could be your last chance to speak up about what you want to see happening on Three Mills Green.

Bold and ambitious plans indeed! Can we deliver?  What do you think?

more to follow.. until then

Yes, indeed what is in a name. I chose the "River Lea Vale Walk" since this was a name for a walk that many others would have done along the (Lower) Lea Valley.

:-)

So, what of Millmeads?
